Gum Disease

We diagnose and resolve gum disease quickly & safely

Unmanaged gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss. By intercepting active periodontal infections, Dr. Wang can help you save your smile and improve your overall wellness. Therapeutic deep cleanings gently remove tartar and plaque deposits, lessening the risk of bacteria spreading into your bloodstream or weakening the bone around your teeth. Dr. Wang will work with you to create a tooth replacement plan to limit any impact on your surrounding smile.

Common symptoms of periodontal (gum) disease

If caught early enough, we can stop periodontal infections before they spread to adjacent teeth or cause additional tissue deterioration. Active gum disease is directly linked to health concerns like diabetes, stroke, heart disease, pneumonia, and reproductive conditions in men and women. Dr. Wang will work with you to create a tooth replacement plan to limit any impact on your surrounding smile.

How we can resolve gum disease for you

Bacteria in the mouth infect tissue surrounding the tooth, causing inflammation around the tooth leading to periodontal disease. When bacteria stay on the teeth long enough, they form a film called plaque, which eventually hardens to tartar, also called calculus.

Gingivitis is completely reversible. But left untreated, it can easily progress into gum disease. At that point, the tissues supporting your teeth are compromised and begin to detach from the root surfaces.

After completing periodontal scaling and root planing (deep cleaning) treatments, we typically recommend a 3-4 month maintenance schedule. These maintenance cleanings help prevent recurring infections until the condition can be stabilized.

This condition is called Gingival Hyperplasia where the gums grow over your teeth making oral hygiene an issue. It can be caused by a chemical imbalance and excessive bacterial growth.

If this is not a new development and you have a naturally gummy smile, we offer cosmetic gum correction treatments.
